Defenses

PCs have four Defenses. However, unlike standard d20 fare, these Defenses are listed as a Defense powers instead of a static value. When an opponent attacks a PC, the PC rolls an appropriate Defense power vs the opponent’s attack value (a static number). If the PC succeeds he/she avoids the attack. If the PC fails, then the attack succeeds. The four defenses are:

Reflex- This defense denotes the PC dodging or deflecting an attack by reacting to it. The PC uses his/her reflexes (trained or otherwise) to counteract an attack. This defense is typically used to defend against melee attacks. However, Jedi often use this defense when wielding lightsabers in order to defend against blaster attacks. A character adds his Acuity bonus to his Reflex defense.

Evasion- This defense indicates that the PC avoids an attack completely or partially through planning or anticipating their opponent’s actions. For instance, using cover or strategically timed shots to hinder an opponents ability to take an accurate shot are examples of Evasion defense at work. This defense is typically used against ranged attacks. A character adds his Intelligence bonus to his Evasion defense.

Fortitude- This represents a PCs ability to physically absorb/resist, as opposed to avoid/deflect an attack. A character adds his Toughness bonus to his Fortitude defense.

Will- This represents a PCs ability to avoid or weather mental attacks or influences. A character adds his Presence bonus to his Will defense.

Compromised Defenses
In some circumstances one or more of a character’s defenses may be compromised. In this case the Defense bonus/value takes a -5 penalty.
